Karate For Children
Learn A Little More
Wetherby Karate Club
ur children are the most precious people in our lives. At Wetherby Karate Club that fact is always uppermost in our minds. When you trust us with your children you need to be secure in the knowledge that we are teaching them something of value in a safe environment. We all have Enhanced DBS certificates which are registered with the update service.
We literally don’t know where to start when it comes to listing the many benefits Karate can bring to youngsters. Self-confidence, self-esteem, self-reliance, resilience, self-control, and improved focus and concentration are just some of the many mental benefits, which also have a direct beneficial impact on the ever-present issue of bullying.
Some of the more obvious physical benefits are improved strength, flexibility and stamina – none of which are developed by endless hours in front of a computer screen or on the X Box!
We take children from 7 years upwards. Experience has shown us that children younger than this struggle to master the complex physical requirements and also lack the concentration to get to grips with a syllabus designed for university students.
Conversely, children from age 7 enjoy and gain confidence from their higher status over some older children and even adults, by virtue of their higher grade!
Karate is one of the very few sports where parents can train in the same class as their children, and we look forward to developing a strong family atmosphere within the club.
As part of the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts, we are required to post the details of the KUGB Safeguarding Officer on our website for anyone who may wish to discuss a safeguarding issue.

Rosie Evans
"We have been delighted with how much our daughter has enjoyed karate lessons at Wetherby over the last year. This is the first sports club that has managed to entice her to commit and keep training. She immediately took to the disciplined style of karate, and has loved learning and practising at home for each new grade. Sensei Martin does a brilliant job of training, supporting and encouraging, it has brought out a side in her we hadn't seen before and we look forward to watching her grow and move up the belts (she has her sights on black belt by 15!)"

"The age of 61 could be thought of by some, as a strange time to take up the art of Shotokan Karate but that is where I am and I am nicely progressing my way through the grades under Martin's instruction. I am thoroughly enjoying training up to three times a week at Wetherby Town Hall.
It's great for both mental and physical discipline and to have a goal to aim for and the bonus is I've met a whole new circle of friends too."

"I am grateful for all the effort and patience that has been shown to Ava, I had so many worries about how she would manage and whether she would enjoy karate and I was met with lots of positivity and encouragement!
I have seen so much effort and joy from Ava whilst taking part and she is desperate to go every evening! Ava says she loves the discipline and the fast moves and it has been amazing to see her thrive in the environment."
